SUMMARY:ASL interpreted performance of ASCENT by Henry Ong
DESCRIPTION:I am working on the world premiere of a play locally here in Los Angeles \nthat will have two ASL interpreted performances one this week and one in mid June. \n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nIt’s called Ascent and we have confirmed two ASL-interpreted performances coming up on Friday\, May 22 and Friday\, June 12 at 8 pm. (They are listed here\, announced on IG here\, and soon to be added to the Skylight website as well.) I would love to invite you to attend and also ask if you would consider letting those you know in the Deaf/HOH community know about these ASL-interpreted performances. \n \nOur playwright\, my dear friend Henry Ong passed away in 2018\, but during his life he had a strong relationship with the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students at Marlton School where he collaborated with them on staging a series of Asian folktales for youth. Accordingly\, my fellow producers and I want to make sure we do what we can to reach those in the Deaf/HOH community who may have know this prolific artist and introduce his writing to those who have not yet encountered it yet. \n \nAscent is based on the true story of Qian Xuesen\, the brilliant aerospace engineer from China who helped launch American’s rocketry program and space age—until Cold War paranoia led to his being called a communist and deportation to China where he became the father of Chinese rocketry. This story is fascinating\, relatively unknown and puts a spotlight on the immigrant experience. It’s also getting lots of praise from audiences and journalists! I keep hearing\, “we need this story right now” and I couldn’t agree more. \n \n\nI hope you’ll join us and invite those you know to join you. In addition to providing ASL\, we also want to extend a special discount for you and yours to use… Enter discount code FAMOUSFRIEND at checkout to receive 15% off tickets for all performances in May. More information and tickets are available here: https://www.skylighttheatre.org/ascent
