Website Deaf Refugee Advocacy

We serve the deaf refugees, immigrants, and asylum-seekers.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Conducts intakes and assessments to determine eligibility for services.
  • Assists in identifying client goals, desires, and needs for community integration.
  • Provides language and accessibility advocacy to obtain needed assistance.
  • Advocates with and for client access to health and service-related providers.
  • Completes, maintains, and secures client reporting and tracking system.
  • Networks with community-wide entities to support effective client navigation.
  • Confers with necessary natural support systems to ensure engagement.
  • Additional responsibilities deemed necessary to the agency’s functioning and operations.

Key Competencies: Deaf and International cultural awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity; Effective
receptive and expressive communication skills; Organization and planning skills; Interpersonal and
networking skills, Writing and presentation skills; Decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Key Expectations: Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle; Must reside within
Monroe County. Possess own mobile phone with ISP plan; Flexibility in working hours and availability
for emergencies and events, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience: BSW or related field with 3 years of experience preferred. Familiarity with
government benefits, regulations and/or re-settlement programs is helpful. Must demonstrate native-like
fluency in American Sign Language.

Status: Full-time, Hourly & Nonexempt, Reports to Caseworker Coordinator.

Yearly Salary range: $45,000 – $50,000
