Interim Instructor

 

Essential Responsibilities:
• Create a welcoming environment that fosters community and learning among program participants while interacting with a diverse population.
• Design lesson plans and teach varied subjects, such as job readiness, independent living skills, ASL, English, Financial Literacy, Civics, and Health Literacy
• Provide classroom instruction at DRA and one-on-one tutoring through home visits or at DRA
• Assist the Education Coordinator with organizing field trips, creating language-rich environments, and implementing any new developments for the Education program.
• Maintain participant and project data, and document student progress and outcomes. Supply reports to the Education Coordinator promptly.
• Additional responsibilities deemed necessary for the agency’s operations

 

Key Competencies: Deaf and International cultural awareness, knowledge, and sensitivity; Effective
receptive and expressive communication skills; Organization and planning skills; Interpersonal and
networking skills, Writing and presentation skills; Decision-making and problem-solving skills, Instructional technology, and curriculum utilization skills.

 

Key Expectations: Possess a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle; Must reside within Monroe
County. Flexibility in working hours and availability for occasional work during the weeknight and weekend.

Interim period is from September 16, 2024, to September 16, 2025.

 

Education and Experience: BA/BS with 2 years in teaching or related field preferred. Subject matter
experience strongly preferred. Must demonstrate native-like fluency in American Sign Language. Experience working with language-deprived populations helpful.

 

Status: Part-time, Hourly, Per Diem, Reports to Education Coordinator; Hourly pay range: $35 – $45
